Teen Banned Book Club

Wednesdays – March 5 & 19 | 6:30–8:00 PM

Are you a high school student or homeschooler who loves reading and discussing thought-provoking books? Firefly’s Teen Banned Book Club is the perfect place to explore challenged and controversial books while engaging in deep discussions about literature, censorship, and the power of storytelling.

Each month, we read a mix of classic and modern books that have been banned or challenged in schools and libraries. From timeless literature to recent releases, our discussions dive into the reasons these books have been censored and the societal issues they address.

Thanks to generous donations from the community and beyond, Firefly Bookstore provides free copies of each book to all club members, ensuring access for everyone.

Open to all teens—no need to be part of a specific school district to join!

Queer Sci-Fi & Fantasy Book Club

Thursday, March 13 | 6:30–8:00 PM

Love sci-fi and fantasy? Looking for LGBTQ+ representation in speculative fiction? Our Queer Sci-Fi & Fantasy Book Club is a space to celebrate diverse voices and imaginative storytelling. Each month, we read and discuss books that feature queer protagonists, are written by LGBTQ+ authors, or both.

From magical realms and epic space adventures to dystopian futures and supernatural mysteries, this book club explores stories that expand possibilities and push boundaries. Whether you’re a longtime fan of the genre or just starting to explore it, come join a welcoming group of readers who love discovering new worlds!

Free and open to all—just bring your love of great stories!

Ali Watkins – NY Times Author Event

Tuesday, March 18 | 6:30–8:00 PM

We’re thrilled to welcome Fleetwood native and New York Times journalist Ali Watkins for an evening of discussion about her upcoming book, The Next One Is for You: A True Story of Guns, Country, and the IRA’s Secret American Army.

This gripping true-crime and investigative history book unveils a little-known story about how Irish America played a role in the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Through years of research and on-the-ground reporting, Watkins uncovers the fascinating history of the Philadelphia Five, a group of American carpenters, fugitives, and revolutionaries who smuggled hundreds of firearms to the Irish Republican Army in the 1970s, fueling one of the bloodiest chapters in modern Irish history.

Perfect for true crime fans, history buffs, and those interested in investigative journalism, this book sheds light on America’s secret involvement in the conflict and the people who risked everything to take part.

This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served!

Tarot Conversations Group Meeting

Tuesday, March 25 | 6:30–8:00 PM
